Chandni and Lamhe

About Sridevi

Sridevi made two of Yash Chopra’s most celebrated love stories. In Chandni (14 September 1989) she plays the title role, and in Lamhe (21 November 1991) she plays two women, Pallavi and Pooja (Yash Raj Films).

On screen

In Chandni, her heart broken when Rohit (Rishi Kapoor) disappears from her life, she finds friendship with a new admirer, Lalit, until Rohit knocks on her door again. Yash Raj Films’ music credits also name her as a singer, with Jolly Mukherjee, on the film’s title song, “Chandni O Meri Chandni”.

Lamhe, set between India and London, gave her two roles, Pallavi and Pooja, and a soundtrack by Shiv–Hari with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

Chandni is, in Yash Raj Films’ words, a classic Yash Chopra love story, softly lyrical and filled with lilting melodies.

Our advice: watch Chandni first, then Lamhe, for Yash Chopra’s romance at its most lyrical.
