About Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji won the National Film Award for Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, at the 71st awards announced on 1 August 2025 (the Government of India’s Press Information Bureau). Her films on the Yash Raj Films site alone run from 1998 to 2021.

On screen

She was Tina in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Suhani in Shaad Ali’s Saathiya (2002) and Rhea in Kunal Kohli’s Hum Tum (2004), and the same year appeared with Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in Yash Chopra’s Veer-Zaara. In Black (2005) she starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

Mardaani (22 August 2014) made her Senior Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy of the Crime Branch, Mumbai Police, hunting a trafficking ring through the city; she returned to the role in Mardaani 2 (2019). In Hichki (2018) she plays the teacher Naina Mathur.

In Mardaani she is Senior Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy of the Crime Branch, Mumbai Police.

Our advice: watch Mardaani for a portrait of the city, and Hum Tum for her comic timing.
